The normal way to print with an Eltron or Zebra printer is to install the appropriate print driver for the printer from the manufacturer (Eltron or Zebra). When you can successfully print a test label from the Windows Printers folder, you are ready to use ShipRush.
The benefits of using the manufacturer-supplied print driver include:
Easy setup
Easy testing
Easy networking (using a printer that is attached to the network or to another PC)
Some sites report problems with the manufacturer-supplied print drivers. Here is an alternate setup technique. (While a skilled PC or network technician can apply this method to network printers,
this discussion assumes the printer is attached to an LPT or COM port on the local PC.)
Steps:
In the printer folder, select the option to add a new printer
Select Local printer, uncheck the option to have Windows Automatically Detect
Select the port the printer is attached to (usually COM1)
On the list of printers, select as follows
Manufacturer: Generic
Printer: Generic/Text Only
Set the printer name to Shipping Label Printer
Once this printer is installed, go to ShipRush settings, configure your printer type as Eltron or Zebra (as appropriate), and select the Shipping Label Printer.
Run a test shipment to confirm proper operation
Note, that with this method, you cannot run a test label from the Windows Printers Folder.
A generic printer can be shared over a network, and used by multiple workstations.
