Thermal Label Printers

There are two 'flavors' of thermal printers, which used to be two companies.  However Zebra acquired Eltron, and so now it takes more awareness to address the subject.

The Eltron printer line uses the EPL printer language.  ShipRush Pro is compatible with these printers.

The Zebra printer line uses the ZPL printer language.  ShipRush Pro is compatible with these printers.

Note that ShipRush is only compatible with the 203 dpi models. 300 dpi models are new, relatively rare, much more expensive and currently are not supported by ShipRush.

Thermal label printers offer fast, efficient printing of self-adhesive labels. These labels are fast to use, and require no additional tape to affix, just peel and apply.

In some cases, an Eltron printer will be provided by your shipping carrier sales rep.  They can also be purchased from a number of sources, including used on Ebay.  The thermal printer can be connected to your PC, a network print server, or shared to the network from a PC.  Networking the printer allows multiple ShipRush users to share a printer, or allows the printer to be located remote to the ShipRush user (e.g. in the mail room or fulfillment center). Since ShipRush allows a shipment reference to print on the shipping label, whoever gets the label will know what to do with it when your reference refers to an order number or part number to ship.

Installing Print Drivers

After physically connecting the printer to the PC or print server, install the print drivers from the CDROM that came with the printer (or download the drivers from the Eltron web site www.eltron.com or the Zebra web site at www.zebra.com).  When you have the printer installed in the Windows Printers folder, make sure that you can print a test label to the printer.

Once the test label works, you are ready to use the printer from ShipRush.

To network your thermal printer, please see the help topic.

If you are having problems with the manufacturer supplied print driver, try the alternate method.
