Data Files

This page is technical in nature. The target audience is a PC or network technician or qualified PC power user.

The ShipRush database is created and maintained automatically by ShipRush. In normal use, there is no need to know about the data files.

In some cases, it is useful to understand where the data files reside:

General facts about the ShipRush database:

1) On a new installation of ShipRush, the database is located in a shared location, under

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Z-Firm LLC\ShipRush

2) The database holds all shipping history, shipper account information, and other configuration data.

If an earlier version of ShipRush was on the system, the database is not moved, and remains under the %USERPROFILE% location.

The default location for the ShipRush database is the shared location on the PC:

            C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Z-Firm LLC\ShipRush

Backup

To fully back up ShipRush, the entire directory:

  C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Z-Firm LLC\ShipRush\

should be backed up, as some configuration files are held here.

By default, ShipRush makes automatic backups at these times:

Manual backups can be triggered in ShipRush Settings (Advanced | Backup area) and in the Database Manager.

These backups are still on the local hard drive, and must be copied to another hard drive or location to protect against a hard drive failure.

These backups are single file backups, with a file name ending .bkp. To restore these backups, use the Database Manager.

Clean Up

The ShipRush system automatically makes backup copies of the database whenever a database upgrade is done. Database upgrades are done automatically in some cases when ShipRush is updated to a newer build or version.  For example you might see a directory like this:

"C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Z-Firm LLC\ShipRush\ShipRush v6\Database.v6\backup1011_56\"

or

"C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Z-Firm LLC\ShipRush\ShipRush v6\Database.v6\backup\"

These backup directories can be safely removed after a new version has been in clean operation for a week or more.
