Brooktrout: T1 Configuration
Note: The following applies to TR114 boards only. It
does not apply to 1034 boards.
T1 installations should be performed by a qualified, experienced telephony engineer. These notes are for reference.
Order T1 service to match Brooktrout technical requirements
(see Brooktrout White Paper # 1094, which may still be available via this link.)
Be sure to have all configuration guides for the Brooktrout
hardware on hand.
To set up OmniRush with a digital TR114 board, there are the following steps:
Install the digital TR114
Attach T1 circuit
Install OmniRush-supplied Brooktrout drivers
Copy in a correct digital.cfg file to the <WINDIR>\BFAX\ directory
Reboot the system
Check the faxinit.log for a recent timestamp and for correct port initialization
Hint: One way to get a valid digital.cfg is to install the Brooktrout NTDIAG utility, and make sure it works properly. Then remove it and use its digital.cfg.
It is critical that that the NTDIAG utility be completely
removed, including low level drivers. NTDIAG
traces on the system will prevent the OmniRush system from working.
Example steps:
Remove OmniRush (and any other) Brooktrout drivers from system
Install NTDIAG
Test using NTDIAG for proper operation of the ports
Uninstall NTDIAG
Install OmniRush-supplied Brooktrout driver
Copy digital.cfg from the NTDIAG directory to <WINDIR>\BFAX\
Follow the steps above.
The following notes relate to a sample 24 channel configuration composed of two ISA boards:
TR114 + I16V
TR114 + I8V-T1
The I16V is a 16 channel board, with no external connection. It connects via a ribbon cable internally to the I8V-T1 board. the I8V-T1 is an 8 channel board with integrated T1 NIC.
These are ISA cards. The same boards are available with PCI interface type. All notes apply to ISA and PCI. PCI installations can ignore the references to the faxinit.cfg file, interrupt, and io port settings. Other switches and files (e.g. digital.cfg) apply.
Using Dell Optiplex systems, the following settings were used:
I16V at Port 200
I8V at Port 100
Both boards at IRQ 7
Note that switch 1 on the IO port block should be turned On on only one board in the system.
T1 settings:
The following T1-NIC settings were used (note, these setting must match the configuration of your T1 line):
Sw1:
1-up (to connect two T1 NIC's, one system should have this set down)
2 up
3 up
4-8 dn
Sw2: All up
MVIP bus: Termination On on the I16V only.
The following configuration files are used:
Note: ISA boards are not supported by Z-Firm Technical
Support.
faxinit.cfg (for ISA only)
addrs 104 8
addrs 204 8
addrs 22C 8
digital.cfg (required whenever MVIP bus is used)
